Monster Bash

While we were waiting for the ladies this morning, Jadon and I went outside the giraffe entrance.  The groundskeepers were trimming some hanging vines using a Genie lift.  Even though it was cool and sprinkling, we sat outside watching them for 15 minutes.  For those of you who do not spend time around kids, you miss the opportunity to watch a kid's reaction as they encounter new things.  The sense of amazement while observing things that us adults take for granted is really cool.  I noticed the same thing a few days ago as Jadon watched, fascinated, as a concrete pumper truck was folding up its boom after a concrete pour at the hospital expansion site that we can see outside the hospital windows.

This afternoon was the Monster Bash put on by the Three Feet of Sunshine Guild for the hospital.  Jadon was able to score a "day pass" to be able to leave the hospital for a few hours.  We walked 4 blocks from the hospital under overcast skies with a cool, blustery wind.  But Jadon didn't mind... for a little while, he was "free".  Jadon wasn't interested in being Frankenstein or even Jesus with his crown of thorns.  He just wore the lights around his halo and orange and black clothes and carried a sword.  The sword allowed him to have a brief sword fight with Dr. White at the party.  It was fun to do a "normal" activity as a family even if was only for a few hours.  Kalina loved the pony rides and got to ride both of the ponies.  Jadon didn't have a favorite part, other than freedom.  The adults were big fans of the Trophy Cupcakes and kettle corn.  We were joined by Jadon's friend Chris and his mom Alayne.  After the party we returned to our room at the hospital so that Jadon and Chris could play on the Wii.

When Dr. White visited this morning, we discussed the plan for the next few days.  On Monday, Jadon will have another x-ray to see if there have been any changes to his back.  He still has two weeks of traction to go, but we are hoping that there will be some improvement in this x-ray since he will be at 20 pounds all weekend.  In all likelihood, we will move from the surgical floor to the rehab unit on Tuesday.  Ember has made it very clear that we have no interest in moving if we can not get a private room.  We would be a very disruptive roommate with all of Jadon's visitors.

Tomorrow promises to be a big day as we wrap up our boys' weekend.  Lots of visitors are on the calendar... but they seem to all be girls.  I guess they missed the memo about boys' weekend.

  1. Sounds like a great party and cool costume! Glad you guys are able to do some normal family things given the circumstances. Hope everyone has a good week. Grandma Sladek sends hugs. Lots of love!
