10 Degrees!

Happy Monday!  We had a pretty good start to our week here.

Jadon was anxious to try to Google Chat with his class this morning.  I am surprised he was not awake super early with anticipation.  Unfortunately, we were not successful in connecting with his class.  The school's firewall was blocking the communication.  It will hopefully be fixed soon.

Jadon and Grandma went for x-rays this morning while I was taking Kalina to school.  They did some reading and some school work.  They also had visits from Alayne (she came later in the day, too), Julie and Jo Ann.  Sorry I missed some of you!  Jadon also got a visit from Mike, a man who does musical therapy here.  He had a good time and we think Mike will return for another visit.

Kalina had a good day at school.  When I got her this afternoon she greeted me with "I had a job.  I was calendar helper and I did it all by myself."  I think being calendar helper is her favorite job so she was very happy.  She enjoyed seeing her friends again.

When Kalina and I returned Jadon had therapy.  After talking with his therapist and doctor this morning, we have added some neck exercises to his therapy.  Neck muscles typically get very weak during traction so we are going to try to help him a little so he is not so bad come November.  What this does mean is no traction for a few minutes, two or three times a day, while Jadon is doing the exercises.  The first time we did them today Jadon said his head felt heavy, a common feeling.  Even with that, he did a great job with the exercises.  He said one is very similar to what he does as school during OT/PT.

After that I ran into one of the nurse practitioners for ortho.  She said she had the x-ray results and Dr. White told her she could share the news with us.  The curvature in Jadon's back is 10 degrees better!  We are all so happy with this news.  I, for one, was not expecting that.  Let's hope the progress continues.  We are, officially, ready to be transferred to the rehab unit now that Jadon is fully weighted and the x-rays looked good.  Unfortunately, the unit got several patients the past few days and Jadon's team does not feel like this is a good time to move.  So, we are just going to stay happy in our room here until we hear more.

We had a nice evening with Andy, Kalina and Grandma.  Jadon was able to Skype with his friend before going to sleep.
