Kalina had her first day of
school on Monday – her last first day of preschool. She had been a little nervous about school. I am not sure if that is quite the right word
to describe how she was feeling but she was acting different about school. After talking to her and her teacher from the
past two years, we came to realize she was dealing with the issues of changing
classes. She is now in a Ready Start
class taught by a preschool teacher, not a special education teacher. The class is bigger and more like kindergarten. There are 15 students in the class and,
unlike her last class, most of the students do not have special needs. The majority are typical kiddos that have
been identified as needing a little extra help before kindergarten (from what I
understand it is similar to Head Start but without the income restrictions). Then there are a few special kiddos with IEPs
that were chosen to add to the class.
These kiddos, like Kalina, don’t need a lot of extra support and help. Although the class and teacher are new,
Kalina still has her same nurse, Peggy.
What a blessing for her and us to have the familiar face of someone we
love with her each day. Kalina will also
have the same speech therapist and physical therapist working with her (the
same ones that worked with Jadon, too).
Her first two days have gone
well. She tells us she has new friends
but doesn’t remember all their names yet.
J She is happy and excited to go to school –
what more could we want.

Good luck to Kalina for her new adventure!
