We had a good start to November today.
I was able to talk to Dr. White today about Jadon's Monday x-rays. He said Jadon's back curvature is currently better than it was before his May 2009 surgery. I was pleasantly surprised to hear this. Dr. White and Dr. Song (Jadon's two surgeons) talked about how much correction they would like to get. Dr. White assured Dr. Song that Jadon's quality of life was just fine before his May 2009 surgery, meaning that if he is corrected to that position, he should be able to function pretty happily, like he was doing. The amount of correction that has occurred also means that the likelihood of needing a more complicated procedure is low. The surgeons will most likely do a graft as part of this next surgery. They will take part of his ribs and graft the front side of his spine, hoping for better fusion results. They will also try to get more instrumentation (screws, hooks) in his back where he has the most significant curvature. Jadon will also have a brace post-op (we were already planning on this). The final plans for his Monday surgery will be finalized later in the week after his MRI and CT scan are complete.
Jadon had a lot of school to attend today. He loves it. It is working well, as long as Kalina is not singing in the background. :-)
Jadon's traction weight was increased to 23 pounds today. He had another x-ray this afternoon.
Kalina and I went home before school for a short time to play and have lunch. She is doing so well, given the circumstances in which she is currently living. She had another great day at school.
Jadon enjoyed PT. He got to play soccer and run down the hill some more today. He loves being able to get some speed. I realized it is something he can’t usually do so I try not to worry too much when he goes flying down the hallway.
Our friends Brian and Traci came to visit this evening. They got Jadon and early birthday present - Cars 2, the movie. It was just released today. Jadon is feeling pretty lucky. He and Grandma Sladek have plans to watch it. Grandma and Grandpa Sladek first saw Cars 2 with us at the theater opening weekend and they are excited to watch it again.
I am feeling very blessed today that we are able to have someone here with Jadon all day and night. The poor little guy next door to us woke last night screaming for his mom. I felt so bad for him and just wanted to go try to comfort him.
