Hidden Dangers

Jadon loves to get books for Kalina from his school library.  He has been doing it for years.  The librarians even set up an account for Kalina so he could check out books for her and not exceed his limit (this was not a huge deal since she has been a student in the school district since she was several months old).

Last week was no exception.  Jadon brought home two Eric Carle books for Kalina. We were reading them again yesterday at lunch.  One book is a big lift the flap book.  Well, I lifted a flap right into Kalina’s eye.  I had to take her to Urgent Care.  She has a pretty significant corneal abrasion in her right eye in her field of vision.  I feel horrible for doing it and Jadon feels bad for picking the book for her.  I never knew lift the flap books could be so dangerous. 

Kalina has prescription eye cream (it does not sting as much as drops) and oxycodone to help with the pain, which is quite significant.  She will be saying home with me today.  Please pray that there is no permanent damage.  She goes to see her pediatrician on Friday and we will see how it is healing.
