Boys' Weekend INTERRUPTED

Our morning started quietly.  Jadon woke up earlier than usual as he was anxious to get started with our boy's weekend activities.  We played a little Wii and then started reading our book, which we never seem to make much progress through.  At 9:15, our nurse came in to tell us that our ride was here!?!

Ember had been working hard to organize a birthday surprise for Jadon.  The staff at Children's was wonderful in helping her to explore ways to transport Jadon off campus for a special day.  With his traction set-up, he is too tall to fit in normal accessible vans.  The final plan involved Puget Sound Cabulance whom we would recommend highly.

So where did we go?  Here is a hint...

If you guessed home, you would be correct.  Jadon was completely surprised and very excited to be home for a few hours.  We had a family birthday celebration as soon as we walked/rolled in the door.  For those of you who know Jadon well, you will not be surprised that Legos, Star Wars and Cars were well represented in the birthday present haul.  He built one of the Legos that we gave him and started another.  He also got a light saber that gives him a distinct advantage when he fights Kalina.

Ember and Grandma even made Jadon a light saber cake in keeping with the Star Wars theme.

Jadon had visitors scheduled for today and we tried to catch them all before they drove to the hospital.  A group of his former friends from Sorenson decided to visit anyway and just came to our house instead.  Clarissa, Jill, Jodi, and Julia got to watch him devour some pizza from the Rock, which is one of his favorites but is located too far away to bring to the hospital.  When you see the picture below, you may wonder, like I do, how long Kalina will think that the light saber is a fun toy...

The cabulance was stuck in bad traffic and "unfortunately" was 1-1/2 hours late in picking us up at the house to bring us back to Children's.  Jadon wasn't too upset but the delay but we were good and called the hospital so that they wouldn't worry about us.  I can't tell you how weird it felt to be home during daylight hours with time to actually do a few things.

We had dinner at the hospital with food we brought from home and then started getting things ready for Jadon's big birthday open house celebration tomorrow afternoon from 1:30 - 4:30.  He is looking forward to seeing a lot of his friends and catching up.  With the time change tonight and since he is so excited, he'll probably be awake at 4:00 AM ready to start his birthday  He did inform us that he is still an 8-year old until 4:02 PM tomorrow when Ember said that she will miss her 8-year old boy as she was leaving tonight.

As I close this post, I find myself thanking God for all of you who have come to visit Jadon over the past month.  He has had a visitor every, single day while he has been here.  Many of you have come more than once and helped him to pass the time with a smile on his face.  While we are all tired from 4 weeks of reduced sleep, we can't even imagine how much worse it would be if Jadon hadn't been in such good spirits.  Thank you to all of you for making our nearly 9-year old feel so loved.
